The clamps just kind of pinch together. You have to squeeze the two ears togheter and let the sharp nipples catch the end tabs of the clamp.

I just replaced one - they are not easy to squeeze. What I did is use a pair of needle-nose pliers. You'll see two little spots to grab about 2" apart. With just the needlenose I could not squuese hard enough. I used a larger pair of channel locks/pliers to squeeze the handles of the needlenose together and walla. It will just snap together - good luck. There is a tool to buy for it but just use the double plier trick. Jeff

It's just a little tiny V sticking up on the clamp - the hole is only about the size of a pen tip. It's just big eneuogh to grab with the tips of the needlenose. Can you post a pic?

The clamps and tool I used may be like yours. The tool has a slot and a hex head on the side, the clamp goes around the boot the lose end in the slot in the tool and you turn the hex head with a wrench to tighten the clamp. Once tight fold the extra tag end of the clamp over into the what I would call the buckel, fold down the ears and cut off the excess.
