New tires!
#1
Have an 08 sportsman 800. Looking to upgrade tires to the 27" Mud Lite XTR's. May have to put washers in to keep away from tie rods in front. Any input on these tires would be appreciated and as well as any suggestions on keeping away from tie rods. Thanks for any input.

williamk,
I have the same bike and have been in research mode on new aftermarket tires. From what others have
told me is that you do NOT need wheel spacers for the 27". BBUUUTTT, let some others chime in for your
confidence levels.
Cheers,

I also have this same bike - and looking for tires
Aside from the tie rod spacers - wondering how the 27" fit under the fender.
Do they bottom out on the top fender when comming down from jumps?
Should we consider beefing up front suspension?

I was looking at the new Interco Swamplite's. I was acctually thinking of dropping down to 25's. I just don't like the amount of flex out of that much sidewall on a 12" wheel. and i don't want to buy new 14" wheels.

I put 27" mudlites on the x2 700. They are mounted up on my wheels from the 800 deluxe, so they have the stock offset. You will have to add wheels spacers if you stay with stock wheels. I think all the aftermarket wheels will have enough offset to accomodate the 27" tire. Washers will NOT work. Trust me, tried everything before shelling out the loot for the spacers....cost me a few rubber boots! LOL! I did find full disc aluminum spacers from somewhere in the midwest for $150 for 4. I would have to look back at my receipt to see where I got them and pass it on. DO NOT add the lug nut type of spacers. I tried them. They do not fit properly and I'm sure they won't withstand the beating you will give them! You do need to go out atleast 1", which is why the washers don't work. I went out 1 1/2". As for the clearance....no issues whatsoever. Also, only the front needs to be offset or spaced out...the rear has no issues. However, I added spacers to the rear as well cuz it looked funny with the front end out more than the rear. Let me know if ya'll have any more questions....BTW, you will find that with the mudlites, you will not need 4wd very often!
