Pull Start Case/New Bendix
#1
My first question on the forum! Good job on this forum. I can usually find what I'm looking for by searching but this one is unusual. Replaced the starter bendix and to do so I had to remove the pull start case. Once off I noticed that it was really dry and very rusted. I also noticed the case had a fill plug and a drain plug. QUESTION: Is there suppose to be some type of fluid in this case? Maybe just a inch of oil in the bottom? Like I mentioned, it's really rusted and the bendix has no way to keep lubricated and it seems like that's necessary. Thanks Cheers!

It rusted because a little water will enter at the pull cord handle seal. What I do is silicon the handle in its place on the recoil cover since its only used for emergencies anyways than no water can get in whats so ever.
You do not want any moisture in there at all because your $300 stator, plus coil, bendix and fly wheel are in there. Before you put it together use a light sand paper and clean the plus coil face and its fly wheel contact point.
The bottom plug is a drain in case water gets by the pull cord handle. The top hole is just a quick inspection hole for the timing marks. You put nothing down that hole.
