Default 2000 scrambler coolant issues

Hello everyone, just picked up my 2000 scrambler last weekend, it still has the original tires in good shape and never been modded that the previous owner knew of. Its spent most of its life sitting I think.

I took it out on the first ride for over 45 minutes and ran good, I stopped to look it over and the coolant is squirting out the top of the over full resivour. I remember when I took delivery a day earlier the coolant over flow tank was full to brim, I'm hoping someone just topped it off not thinking.

If its a head gasket would it be leaking around the head? I see nothing leaking and no signs of a previous leak.

My plan is to drain some out and try it again. Speaking of that where is the drain? The service manual doesn't even show it.

Also do they really rip box stock? This one was ok but I'm used to my nitrous snowmobile with over 220hp so I may be desensitized to the little 37hp 400

Thanks!

Does your fan kick on? My friends clean "he though" 700 Sportsman boiled over at the bottle and it turned out the top half of the rad had baked mud blocking it. He really cleaned it and all is fine now.

I didn't notice the fan kicking on at all and the radiator seemed fairly cool even after 45 minutes. The temp was around 52 degrees I was riding in.

I dont think so, it seems to be a good unit for what I want. Probably only see a few trips a year and is not used for work. Cheap fun IMO. I have run all brands and Polaris has never been the worst I rode.

You have to make sure the fan is working. May just need a termal switch.

Use the seach option on this site . Used "advance" search "Subject only" Polaris forum , search term "fan". or "over heating" and read away.

All Polaris have the same fan, cooling system so do worry about what ATV there talking about.

But wouldn't it get hot if it was not working? The temp light wasn't on and the rad and coolant in the overflow was not even scalding hot?

Is it possible its just too full?

I will double check the fan how long does it ususally take to get the unit up to temp on the 400?

Thanks!

The over flow bottle does have a min/max level line printed on it. Fill it inbetween those lines.

Right now its right up to the top of the bottle way above the full line. Is there a drain somwhere? Thanks
