One thing for sure, definately be careful mashing the throttle from a standstill, especially if you are on pavement or really hard packed ground!! It only takes about one quarter throttle to bring the front end up, and that is in high range! If you throttle it good from a roll in low, the front end will come up just as easy. I can just imagine how easy it would be to wheelie with some aftermarket tires on. Good times.</end quote></div>

Now THAT'S the kind of power I like....when you mash the throttle and the front end comes up.....

Oh it will lift the front end without even trying I'm sure. My daughter loves the acceleration so I used to mash on the 800 real quick with her riding, nothing high speed of course, just quick low speed bursts of acceleration in an open field behind our house. I could got WOT on the 800 and still feel it was safe. I did that with her on the 850,but not WOT,maybe 1/2-3/4 and she loved it, said it gave her butterflies and 'said "the old one didn't do that!" lol. And that was in high. I can't imagine nailing it in low. I haven't felt the need to go WOT at real low speeds just yet,1/2-3/4 has been plenty lol.

rancher55- Thanks, I think it looks alot better too. Turned out pretty good.
I'm going to find some stout metal screen to form a rad protector out of, and put it behind the plastic stock grill. I plan to make it where it will protect the rad from the sides as well.

I have to add to the list of "don't likes":
Most of the skid plates are plastic, some is metal. It is plastic under the cast engine oil pan..I really do not like that! The most important area IMO. I can just see climbing over a downed tree and a 4-5" long branch stub breaking through the oil pan, or at minimum ripping the plastic skids off. The 800 was full metal and pretty much indesructable underneath. Something else to buy, if anyone even makes them yet

Adding to the likes also:
The header has a sweet heat sheild that runs the entire length of the exhaust. You don't even notice it until you look close, it is some type of batting covered with stainless steel shields. You notice NO heat..I mean none at all, when riding

Ironbear-No problem. Keep your eye on Breese's and Don Wood's e-bay stores. They run specials alot. I think the reg price on Breese's is $245 plus shipping, I found another listing for $232 from them, then when I went to check out they gave me a 10% discount on the most expensive item ordered. Ended up perfectly covering shipping. I think it said that special was going until 10/31. If you can't find it give them a call. Them and Don Woods both have always been great for me, they stock alot and ship fast.
I ordered and recieved the guards before the machine. Gave me something to do while I was waiting. I preassembled them, they come in 3 pieces(headlight hoops need to be bolted to the center sections). Then bolted them and the winch on the day I brought it home.

Edit-found a Breese listing for $232.75 while looking for something else, says the sale ends within the hour..not sure that's true.
Anyway,here it is:

This is kind of cool! Small waterproof bag that fits under the front rack.

I'm glad I kept the basically new K&N off the 800, it fits the 850. It isn't too dusty around here so I'll run it. I'll put the stocker back on during pollen season.

Does anyone have a stock top speed that they can confirm yet? I've heard anywhere from 73-83 mph. So on a flat road that is hard packed and smooth, ethier dirt or pavement, I don't care which. Has anyone opened it up for a mile or so and see what the top speed is?

The local Polaris dealer gave me some gas consumption figures for the 800 twin @18mpg, the 550 a@ 25 mpg and the 850 @ 20 mpg with an average travelling speed of between 30and 40 mph. Does this seem optimistic. They are saying that the 850 should get better mileage than the 800. I'm still curious.
Take care,
Dave

Thanks again HighOctane. I found an eBay store named Motor Sport Mike and he was just advertising the front brush guard for $175, but he also has the rear brush guard too. I sent Mike a message to see what kind of package deal he could give me. I will be sure to let you know how I make out, and like you, I may purchase the brush guard before the machine comes in, that way it will be protected before I hit the trails

I still haven't stretched it out, but I did take on the hard pack yesterday and got it going about is fast as I ever will. Hit 70 pretty dang quick. I know it would hit at least 75. That is on level ground. I didn't hold it WOT for too long, still isn't really broken in good. I don't buy into the baby it in theory, but I also don't think prolonged WOT load is good either. If it's like most the top speed will go up some as it breaks in.
