Best Gun Rack
#4
I use Kolpin Gear Grips. One of the most useful additions I've made to my ATV. I use them for guns, fishing rods and bows but I find they're useful for many other things too. Longer tools and and supplies that won't fit in boxes or milk crates can be securely held with them. I even use them when I go out and gather dead hedge sticks for kindling. I just cut them to the right length and place them in the grips. When I have a full load I clamp them down and ride back to the house. Sure beats dragging the trailer around or bungee cording the stuff down.
When you mount them make sure the release button is facing the ATV. If you have it facing outboard, tree branches and brush sometimes manages to poke the button and release the clamp. Orient the buttons inboard and this doesn't happen. They also remove quickly. They're in the way if I'm in extremely heavy brush so if I don't need them to carry things I just pop them off and store them until I need them.

CaptainQuint,
Thanks for the advice. A friend of mine has some of those on a Suzuki Vinson. He seems to like them. He has them mounted on the front rack which is basically clamped to the rack itself with "U" bolts. My question is did you drill holes in the Poliaris front rack and bolt directly to the plastic deck itself? And are there any other mounting suggestions you could recommend i.e. reinforcement, bolts, washers, etc.?
Thanks again for your advice!

I have metal racks on my old magnum so I have mine secured with the supplied hardware. It is sort of a wide plate. here is a pic on the Kolpin site:
Grip Plates
I would think they would "sandwich" the plastic rack between the base and the bottom plate. I don't see why it wouldn't work. You could also e-mail Kolpin and ask them how they suggest mounting them to the Polaris racks.
If you are handy and ambitious enough you could probably get a couple of the Polaris Lock and ride anchors and fabricate a plate and mount the bases to it. Shouldn't be too difficult.
You know, speaking of gear grips I broke one of mine today. I had taken them off my ATV because turkey season was over and placed them on the shelf near my ATV. I was riding into the garage tonight in the dark and heard the sound of plastic cracking. Turns out one of them had fallen on the floor and I drove over it in the dark. Broke one of the "fingers". I wasn't happy. I can still use it but one of the "fingers" is sorta useless and flopping around. Moral of the story is if you get a set don't drive over them
