We went for a ride today and my machine seemed to really lag and lost power whenever I cracked the throttle. My air filter was really dirty, could this be the problem or should I be looking elsewhere?

 

I would clean carb and check out the float levels too

 

the air filter could make it run that way if it was being blocked from air somewhat. check to make sure the carb boot isnt cracked as well as some had these issues.

 

Will a can of spray carb cleaner work or will I have to take everything apart. And I remember reading about the carb boot thanks for reminding me.

 

I would take everything apart, I wouldn't skimp when it comes to that type of thing IMO

 

agreed, that spray isnt going to do the trick if the carb has dirt,gumed up or what have you. try a good clean air filter to see if it makes any differnce. also look inside the carb mouth to see if any dirt got in there and if it did then it most likely will have to come apart. imo.
