2007 Sportsman 800
#1
Just bought a new leftover Sportsman 800 (black/silver). It is my first Polaris. Always been a Yamaha guy but the deal was too good to turn down. It is stock. I've bought a front and rear bumper that will be delivered in a week or so. Can you tell me what issues I need to look out for? Any recommendations for upgrades?

Use low range under 7mph and any time under load!! Will extend belt life dramatically! Change oil at 25 hrs, thereafter recommend every 50 hrs OR twice yearly and ALL fluids ONCE YEARLY. Others will help on upgrades,I just try to help keep em running! Good luck

A winch is always a good option, three light mod, reverse overide mod (good for mudding or plowing ). Your right leg will always be warm when you ride, its common to all 800's. I have had an issue with the tbap sensor wiring harness other than that no issue. Enjoy the smooth ride and plenty of power, plus a lot of people with a lot of knowledge on this forum

The only problems I've had so far have all been operator error! Look out for trees at a high rate of speed, they just pop up out of no where! Also, mud holes are ALWAYS deeper than they look! I'm with GAS, a winch would be the very next upgrade. The popos are waaayyy to heavy to pick up! Been there, done that, got the bruises to prove it! Ride it, maintain it, and like oldpolaristech said: low range under 7 mph, and it should last you a long time with no problems.

After a week or so of surfing all the ATV forums I could find on the web, I decided to buy a Viper Classic 3K (synthetic rope) winch and an aft rack extender for my Popo. Peter at MotoAlliance gave me a great deal. While I have not taken possession of the winch yet, I can highly recommend their customer service. It is fast and friendly.

hoepfully you have good luck w/ that winch as havent heard alot about there realiablity. keep the radaitor cleaned out after you have been mudding so it wont over heat. the twins run hotter then the singles for sure.

Regarding L range, just remember that H range should be your gear of choice for most riding situations. Use L range if you're going to be MOSTLY under 7 mph, not just occasionally. What I mean is don't think you have to stop and switch to L range just because you have to cross a road at a slow speed, just to stop at the other end and switch back to H.
The main thing is to be mindful of your speed AND additional load, so you can use L if you need to so you don't smoke your belt.
Also keep it greased up.
And if you want to do it, add the ADC on/off switch, a very simple and worthy mod IMO. And when it comes time to change the front differential fluid, make sure to use Premium LT fluid, NOT the plain Premium Demand Drive fluid.
