I had my 4x4 stay locked a few times on my first Sportsman 500. I'd back up a little ways while shaking/turning the handlebars back and forth and it always unlocked.

My 05 is not digital speedomoter, but digital for rest. Mice ate the wires on me. Now way of knowing until stuck.
