Default Trailblazer Grinding

OK so sometimes when i use the handbrake on my 96 trailblazer it grinds. It sounds like its right next to the aux brake and i thought it might be the sprocket and chain or sumtin. Then i thought maybe it has sumtin to do with the tranny. And then i remeber whenever i pull the tranny dipstick out it sometimes has lil metal filings on the end. any help?

sounds like the silent chain is stretched. either that or those metal shavings you keep finding are the tooth portion of some gear. either way i would tear the gearbox down and check it out

Years ago I ran into a problem similar to this on brand new machines. It seemed to be more obvious in reverse also. What we found was the trans output shaft was long enough that it would/could vibrate causing a really bad noise down by your footbrake. What we did to fix it was install Polaris part number 1590237 behind the brake disc to the frame. It is a bushing that the 4wd models used to support the trans output shaft, but the 2wd models didn't have it. Install it it, grease it, noise gone.

If you want me to explain it over the phone(which would be easier) let me know and I'll PM you my number.

You won't find it on your model because Polaris didn't use it on 2wd models. Only 4wd models. Look here.

http://parts.polarisind.com/Browse/Browse.asp

Go to ATV- 1996- SCRAMBLER-W967840, then scroll down to "Gearcase/Brake and chain cover mounting" and look at number 27

They didn't use this on the 2wd models but it will fit and if the noise you are talking about is the noise I think you are talking about, this will fix it.

Might want to check the rear brake pads along with the output shaft bearing
