Default 2005 800 Sportsman Runs Rough

I have a 2005 Polaris 800 Sportsman that runs like crap. It starts and runs fine,,, then after awhile it sounds like it misses and pops... kind of like when you try backing up without that override button pushed in. It goes for awhile like that, then will run ok again. It goes back and forth, running good for awhile, then running crappy. I checked the vent hoses and they seem fine. Is it possible that the computer part for the fuel injection could be messed up and need servicing? I am considering selling it because I dont ride it much.....mostly to plow snow in the winter and would need to get it cleaned up and running like it should. I would like to see if it can be taken care of on my own as taking it to a dealer will cost more than I want to pay I am sure. Any ideas would be greatly sppreciated.

Mine had a similar problem, checked and it kept giving me an error code of 45, barimetric prssure low. I replaced the 4 prong plug going into the throttle body at the suggestion of my polaris dealer, and it runs like a champ again. I would check my error codes before I start replacing parts tho, but if the dealer knew what it was just by my explaining it, chances are it's a known problem with Polaris. Let us know what you find out.

Your problem sounds similar to what i had. T-bap sensor harness. Had the harness replaced and ran like a champ ever since.

No,, it dont run like it does when ya run out of gas. I had that happen before to. Like I said... it starts and runs fine... I can run it about 3/4 mile to a mile or so down the road and it start popping and running like crap....along with a power drop. It will idle just fine. Same for just driving around the yard or plwoing snow... works good for awhile then starts running roughly.

I have a service manual,, but cant locate it at this moment...can someone tell me how to do the diagnostic check and see if anything pops up code wise? If it cant be figured out....looks like a trip to a dealer and let them hook up their diagnostic equipment.

makes me wonder if the fuel pump is cuting out making it run lean causing it to pop and back fire. did you pull the plugs to see how they looked?

Another thing I wanted to add, that I should of before....starting this past spring, the battery will go dead if it sits awhile without being ran. That started when I ahd the machine about 3 yrs, so I dont know if the battery is just going bad or what. The key is off, no lights or nothing stay on to draw it down. Could a bad battery cause this problem?
