Default sportsman 90 electric start problem

07 sportsman 90

Bought used in June 3 weeks later the electric start quits so I put the lever on and have been using it . Now that it is getting colder I don't want to mess with kicking it .
the battery has and keeps 12 -13 volts . With the key on and probe on the starter connection and grounded to the battery I get no voltage at the starter . I would appreciate any help given , I need to get the boy back to starting it on his own !

Also still have to fix the staring on our big one , when it rains it pours !

Starter relay under seat could be faulty,or starter could be bad. Apply 12 volts directly to starter and see if works. If does then relay the problem ,if not then starter. Also does left brake starter interlock switch work and brakelight comes on?

Sorry I have taken so long on answers , I just had had a chance tonight to get things checked .

Starter does spin with 12 volts direct

The brake light does not come on when the left brake is applied .

Can I get this relay at any parts store or will it be a polaris dealer item ?

Thanks again for your help !

Starter interlock switch probably bad going into brake lever. Controls brake light and starter circuit completion. Dont know about after market availability, but available at Polaris, not that expensive. Good luck

Relay square plug in module under seat,BUT interlock switch just small black connector that pushes and locks into brake lever assy and more likely the problem if brake light not coming on (if bulb good) it also completes circuit to engage starter. Good luck
SORRY,didnt see was 07 4 stroke,BUT still about the same, but relay module may be on frame? havent had to tear in to the 4-strokes,have been pretty reliable, none have come back in for repairs!

Please more help !

First I am wrong , it is an 06 . I went to the dealer and they tell me they don't know what or show a part for an interlock switch . I was told I needed the relay you mentioned above under the seat . that did not fix the problem . i checked the bulb and it is good . The lock does lock the lever , but no tail light . Do you know or can you tell me where to find a part number on the interlock switch ?

Thanks again .

Well the new interlock switch did not fix it . Now The rear brake light does come on when the machine is running , but I have to kick start it . I lucked out and they took the relay back , so I won't push it with this switch . so far the relay under the seat or the interlock switch have not had an effect . The battery shows 13.4 volts and the starter does work when I hook up 12 volts and jump it with a screw driver . Any ideas on what to do next ?

Thank you
