My 500 Xplorer AWD will not work. When you push the button to engage the light doesnt come on. I have the hillard hubs off and looking at them, and they look to be fine. I was wondering what it could be, could it be the wiring inside the strut assembly or could the magnetic coils gone bad. Can anyone help me on this issue. All help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for the help.

97 had the gear position switch in shift box,can wear after time, may not allow awd to work if not completing circuit Also awd switch has small bulb that ocasionally will burn out could be one of the other or both. My experience as they get older, awd wont light up in high range because this is the gear most people leave it in,will usually light up if switch bulb good if extra pressure is pushed on lever and usually will light up in low range(makes better contact with switch) ALSO if bulb burnt out WONT have awd, must help to complete circuit also. Probably why they moved gear switches to transmission on later models, eliminating this problem. Hope this helps. opt

Like I posted, push awd button, see if lights up when you put in hi or low range. SHIFTER internal push switch and AWD light work together to make awd work. IF bulb ok but doesnt light, possible worn switch in gear shifter box. Had several design changes on internal switch, stock switch had plastic plunger that wore quickly and wouldn't allow awd, replacement was metal tipped that worked better. Then was switched to trans to eliminate this problem later on. IF switch lights up,THEN check connections to hubs, armature plates, etc.
