hey guys - its been along time since i have been here (very busy) How you doin Caper and Sten??
this isnt a polaris post nor a atv post but I value and trust your opinions from all your input in the past and how you helped me. Thats why I would only ask you guys! Polaris owners always seem to be the honest ones in the bunch for some reason. Anyways........... Anyone know anything about the Can Am Spyder? good, bad or indifferent? trying to find opinions before I buy.
I wish Polaris made one!!!!

Hey brutus450 i was considering getting a spyder myself , my brother told me that some of the guys he works with were having trouble with theirs ; so i've desided i'll wait untill they work out the bugs before spending that much on one !
I had read that the cost of the first year models were going to be list priced at $10,000.00 , but my brother told me that the ones his friends bought were like $17,000.00 ; i don't know if they had any customs added or if they were like an LE Edition for the price increase though !
Maybe the 09's will have the bugs worked out i sure like the design for sure and all the saftey features with the computor controls ; if they get them right i will be in the market for one because one of my other brothers bought a new 2006 Honda V 1300 twin and i've been itching to go riding with him and me being a bilateral amputee i can't ride a 2 wheel street bike !
The Honda 3 wheelers start at $20,000.00 to $30,000.00 and thats out of my price range , i haven't even looked at the spyder yet just like you i'm waiting to find out if they get the problems they've had with the first year models ; if you get a chanch to test ride one let me know what you find out for sure !.........

hey brutus long time no hear. hows things been, good i hope. i know a guy know owns one but really havent talked to him about it much. i hear you can not drive it like a regual motorcycle because of the design and they are very pricey. also i heard thier not over all fast(not that it really matters much). myself i cant see my self ever riding one. yep honda trikes are very expensive even for a used one.

I have a friend with one, He has logged 7,000 miles on it since Aug. Not a single issue. The thing corners like it is on rails. You can very easily hang with any sport bike until about 120mph. Very comfortable, and very stable. Tight, twisty roads are a lot of fun. It is very easy to lean from side to side through turns.

Mark thats the first thing i've heard of anyone other than from my brother knowing anyone who owns one , and from his friends it was negative news so the positive news you have given here is what i like to here ; what was the price tag of your friends Spyder and what year model was it !
120 mph is 2 times more than the speed i would be riding one , so i would have no problem with the handling of the bike ; this is what i'm wanting to hear i'm wanting one for the fuel mileage of a bike and also wanting to ride with my brother and friends who ride 2 wheelers again any and all info i can gain would be great !........

He just got it this year, I believe it is an 08. For the people who say they don't handle well, I've watched him take a 25mph turning off ramp at about 60-65mph. I think he paid about 14,000 or something. I had the top speed wrong. It only hits 110, not 120. LOL

I don't know about it keeping up with a sportbike in corners. It MIGHT keep up on straights but also doubt it. It is considerably heavier then the average sportbike, but as we all know gearing can make up for a lot of that.
I have heard of stability issues when hitting corners hard. That is the only negative thing I have heard on these machines.
I drive sportbikes primarily ('98 GSXR 600 SRAD and a '07 GSXR 750) and was interested in the spyder but I don't think I would buy one personally... just not my style... but for many that might be concerned about being able to balance a bike it could be ideal.

My buddy is pretty comfortable on his. Where the sport bikes lean through the turn, on the Spyder he throws the back end out almost like a power slide. The acceleration is pretty sick on these things. He lays down rubber no problem. Max is about 110.

Yeh................I wont be going any where NEAR 100 mph. LOL I just really wanna be able to cruise around. Im not a speed demon. hence the 450 sportsman I sound like it will great for what I want it for. I googled looking for particular problems but couldnt find any. My local dealer has 2 in the shop one for 15 and one for 17. I am going this weekend to see what the diff is but I bet I will be going for the 15k model. It is pricey but seeing that my wife wont let me have a motorcycle, this is the closet I will get to one so I will pay the price tag I think the major diff is clutch shift or a button shift. It looks like I wont be test driving one this weekend - we just got 8 inches of SNOW today and its supposed to snow the rest of the weeek!

i know the feeling bud. we only went on i think 3 short rides. my wife went from the t/blazer to the 450 and really didnt feel real comfortable on it so i got her the new 08' 400 HO which is smaller and she likes it much more them the 450. make sure to have the wife try them out good before she decides. good luck w/ the new toy and ya i think i would wait until next season to ride lol.
