Hello everyone, I know this is probably not the best place to be posting this, but I do not know anywhere else to turn.

I have a 500 Indy Polaris snowmobile, and it is a 2-stroke. (thing must be fast..)
I believe it has 2 cylinders, as I noticed two carburetors.

The problem is that it has sat for a year without starting, and that needs to change!

Yesterday I went over to it, popped the hood, and saw a mouse nest inside the airbox. I took it off and removed the nest from the foamy filter, it wasn't damaged.

After that I knew the battery was dead, so got the car over to it to jump it. The motor spins and it tries to turn over, but it doesn't.

So then I got some spray, and removed the airbox lid, and started spraying it into the engine while cranking it.

It did run for a few seconds, but the machine wouldn't respond to the throttle, and it barely stayed running, only the spray kept it alive.

Obviously I need to clean the carbs, but is there anything else I should do, and what does it sound like the problem with this thing is?

Also, I know little about 2 strokes, and what should I do to clean the carbs.

How should I move this beast? I don't think the tracks will move, nor do I think a 250ex or a 125 grizzly can pull it even if they did. If anybody has advice please tell!

Finally, I hear that the machine has no neutral, and that when hitting the gas it engages a clutch and puts it in gear, trying to turn the tracks, but they may be locked up, could this be causing it to die? I propped up the tracks so nothing would restrain them, perhaps this rules it out?

If you make it this far, thanks just for reading....but....
if you have any suggestions I would be very appreciative of responses, I know there are many!

I would take the carbs off and thoroughly clean them. they are likely gummed up as fuel that has been sitting turns to a varnish. It wont run properly until you do that. If you don't know what you are doing when it comes to servicing the carbs just take them into a small engine shop and save yourself the time and trouble. It shouldn't cost much for them to flush them and get them running clean again.

I would also replace the plugs.

Good luck getting it running.

Thank you for the advice, I may end up doing that. Btw, how do you think I should go about moving this thing onto a trailer?

I'd just ask a friend to give a hand hauling it on if you don't have ski dollies.

Good luck!

I would also do a compression test, to make sure the rings are good, when cleaning the carbs I would also rebuild them

Also make sure the brake is not LOCKED on at the handlebars....This will prevent the track from turning......

..With the machine off the ground(lifted at the back) the track should turn by hand with some force.....................Caper..........

Oh, OK, that makes a lot of sense, b/c the brake is almost impossible to pull and there is a small orange tab below the left handlebar that doesn't want to move either, and also the track moves maybe 1.5 to 2 inches before it won't budge anymore, so I'm going to give it another look tomorrow. I'll check back with info on how it goes.

that would be the brake lock. the early 90's indy's didnt have the greatest brakes anyways. 1st is you need to pull the carbs off and even check the exhaust for more mice crap. maybe look over the wiring as well as they love to chew on it. make sure they didnt get into the intake (behind the carbs). if you have never worked on the carbs then it might be a little challanging. you need to remove the jets and adjusting air screw and float to clean and even clean all the passages ways in the carbs w/ cleaner and compresed air. male sure the gaskets are good and then you need to sync. the carbs once you put them back on. just a side note is chances are the clutches will need to be cleaned as well if its been sitting a while. god i miss the simple old 2 stroke polaris sleds lol.
