Default CV Boot Replacement

I am trying to replace a torn front outer CV boot on my 2005 Sportsman 500. I got everything tore down, except I'm having trouble pulling the outer CV joint off the shaft/axle. How do I do it?

Is there a snap ring inside the CV joint I have to find? If so, can I remove the snap ring with a standard snap ring pliers?

Is there a spring clamp inside the CV joint in which I should just pound the CV joint off with a rubber hammer?

Thank you

Hit it with a hammer. It will pop off and on with a litle force.

Polaris 5,

If you will clean the grease out of the joint next to the axle you will see a retaining ring next to where the cv joint attaches to the axle. I used a set of snap ring pliers to spread it open and my son knocked it off the axle with a hammer. Do a search and there are several good articles on replacement of the boot and cv joint. There is even a video on you tube that someone had a link to that is very helpful.

Good luck,

I think that clip is only for the rear cv?

On mine there is a spring clip on the fronts, as said earlier, just smack it with a mallet.
