I've been lurking on these forums for a while now. I've ridden a few Sportsman's over the past few years and have always been impressed how great of a overall package Polaris puts out.

Well, I finally made the leap and a picked up a new Sportsman 800 of my own. You just can't beat the overall package of these machine's from the wheel/tire combination, ADC, etc...not to mention the RIDE. Coming off my Kawi Brute Force it feels like getting out of an old Jeep and into a Cadillac

How quick should you change the oil on a new machine? I think the manual says 50hrs. I'm thinking 10 or 15hrs. What do you guys think?

On my 08' 500, the manual said to change the oil and filter after the first 10 hours or 1st Month... which ever comes first. That's the "break-in" oil change. Then is says to change every 100 hours under normal operating conditions. I'm not sure what "normal" is for an ATV.

My dealer said he recommends every 50 hours. I will change it at 25 hours max. I believe in a little "overkill".

With that said, I would check your manual.

BTW, congrats on the new ride!

BTW... for what it's worth...

I kept the first and second oil filter that I changed on mine. The original looked a bit different than the one that my dealer gave me for the first change. I cut the top off both filters and inspected. The insides of the original one looked better to me than the Polaris filter. Didn't matter to me, as I was using a NAPA gold oil filter anyway.

Your filter may be different than mine, but I thought I would pass this along.

Congrats. Manual call for a "break-in" change after first 25 hours/1 month and then every 100 hours/6 months thereafter. I do alot of slow riding and stop and go working around the property so I do mine more frequently.
I did my break -in change at about 12 hours and will change about every 25 to no more that 50 hours or so as called for by the manual for "severe use".

My 08 800 Manual says 10 hours too or 1 month. The kits are cheap change it often and you will be good to go.

1St oil change within the first 25 hours is fine. After that every 100 hours. Wix makes a filter available at NAPA that is less expensive than the Polaris filter. You will love your Polaris...I have owned 5 and will purchase nothing else.
