Curious, will a SC400 2 stroke beat a 400 ex in a short drag?

Hey Scramdaddy~
Would you care to share how to do that math? I see no relationship between top speed and quad lengths! How does 2mph difference equal 1 and 1/2 lengths!?! If you're both running your top speed, you'll only be ahead by 1 and 1/2 lengths for a split second! Also, I am going to doubt your machine can truly run 70mph! Today at the Lake by my house, my Scrambler ran 56.4mph in 1000 feet with studded tires! DS650 ran 75mph! Even on pavement, i don't think your machine is going to be 14mph faster than mine! Also, I did drag against a stock 400ex out there. I took him off the line and for about the first 300 feet, but then he passed me and ever so slowly walked away. We raced a few times and the results were basically the same every time.

I just raced my friends 400ex (K&N filter and FMF pipe) against my scrambler 500 4x4 this weekend. We raced about 10 times and the results were the exact same everytime except for once, no matter who was riding either bike. I would get 1-3 lenghts on him right off the start and for about 100 yards i would be ahead and then he would hit 3rd gear and it was all over from there. He would come flying past me about 5 or 6 mph. And it got worst from there. His will run about 70 and mine will run about 65 or 66. We raced down a dirt road everytime. O yeah, the one time that i beat him, i spanked him bad. HAHAHAHAHAH. It was because he missed second gear. Atleast i had something to cheer about then!
As far as your ? goes i would have to say that it would be close but i think that the Polaris would win. It is a 2 stroke and it is alot lighter than mine. Which means that it will run faster. I think that stock for stock the 400 2 stroke will win everytime. But that is just my opinion b/c i have never ridden the 400 Scrambler.

WIscrambler the mathmatical equation is relatively easy.
You can calulate speed if you know the distance traveled and the time taken by using this simple formula:
Speed (ft/sec)= distance(ft)/time(sec)
The drag I did against the 400ex was in a race track parking lot with an 800ft measured stretch.
To figure out each machines top speed we had a guy at the finish line with two stop watches to record time.
Times recorded: scrambler400 2x4= 7.8 seconds
honda 400ex= 8.0 seconds
With the times in hand we calulated the equations:
800ft/7.8sec=69.93mph scrambler 400 2x4
800ft/8.0sec=68.18mph honda 400ex
After to achieve the distance gain of my scrambler over the 400ex used this mathmatical equation:
Distance(ft)=time(sec)/speed(ft per sec)
800ft/7.8sec=6240ft scrambler 400 2x4
800ft/8.0sec=6320ft honda 400ex
Distance gained= 100ft
Technically I was giving the 400ex credit.
About your problem losing against a 400ex...try rejetting for the winter. 2 strokes are cold blooded giving 4 strokes the advantage.
Your stock jetting is rated for temps. of 40 to 80 degrees at 3000ft above sea level. Any temps. under that means you need to rejet, try a 250 main jet for temps. of 30 to 0 degrees and a br9es spark plug also rated for temps. of 30 to 0 degrees. That should put that bloated 400ex rider back his place.

Hey Scramdaddy~
Thanks for clearing that up. I didn't know you had a set distance and time. My bad. Also, I have it jetted with a 250 main, and am running a BR8es plug. It is running good, I think it is just time for new rings and piston. I'm getting hooked on power, so I will be getting an HPD pipe real quick! I'll be waiting for any 400ex to race me then!!

I've raced a Scrambler 500 4x4 with my brother's 400EX a couple times. The 400EX won everytime no problem. I do think the Scrambler 400 2x4 would be harder to beat, but I think the 400EX would do it. It would depend on the start and the riders I think. Of course I'm talking stock for stock.

sorry scrambler500fc but i was there when u did it and it was more like 100ft not a 100 yards and then he blew your doors off!!
yea a stock sc400 2 stroke would be a good match for the 400ex that raced scrambler500fc(fletcher culpepper) but stock for stock the 400sc would probably beat it depending on the drivers but it would be close.

Hey no offense here guys but i also own a 400 scram 4x4 and it wont hold a candel to a ex unless there is an anchore tied to it. but hey maybe i have a slug. But according to polaris tech dept the scram is made to run 55 mph stock that i belive not 65.

Either Scrambler, stock, was not conceived to be a racer. Now if your talking about a nicely modded Scrambler 400...you will most definately beat a 400ex. Mine gets beat(for now) by a Shee by about 5 to 7 mph and thats after about 300 feet. I only have a trail pipe and according to logic and the speedometer, I was going about 65 mph...
