scrambler awd in and out, please help
#1
i am having an issue with my awd, 1999 scrambler 500. the awd switch light and the awd itself are not coming on all of the time. when i turn the key and start machine the awd light comes on maybe half of the time and is engaged, neither works the other half of the time. i took the switch a part and cleaned it up, did not seem to help. Any help or suggestions on what to check?? is there a relay maybe??

i know some of the switches they used years ago had issues as thats why they went to the newer style slide switch. also when its not coming on check to make sure thier is power getting to it and the light bulb has good contact as well as it needs it to complete the circuit i do beleave. wouldnt hurt to change the hub fluid if you havent for a long time. imo.

the switch that is on there is yellow and slides rt to lt. i will take it apart again and check out the bulb connections. i just bought this atv a couple of weeks ago so dont know too much about how it works. when you are talking about the hub fluid, is this the front end only and is this the transfer case or out at the wheels?? and where can i go to find out how to do this, are there any good service manuals out there for the polaris?

On the older models there is a switch inside shifter box that had a plastic tip that would wear down, the replacement was made with a metal tip. This is what completes circuit along with awd light for the front wheels to kick in. I've had to replace a few of these over the years. On later model the switch was moved to the transmission. If you push shifter in drive and awd doesnt light up,BUT if you shove a little harder forward on shifter AND it lights up,then shifter switch needs replacement.
SORRY!!!!!! I'm brain dead today!! You do have the switch on the transmission not the shifter, plus their made out of plastic too! Trans switch could be some of trouble also.
