Default 800 vs the 850

Ouch..Looks like I just have to suck it up and run what I brung...I would like to get an air filter for the 800 yet and the EFI controller..I liked the FMF one actually...so i'll try to squeeze all the speed I can out of it. Other than the drag race type situations, I love the PoPo.

I'll give the 800 a couple years then maybe trade up to the 850. Thanks for the info.

I'm new to the forum, so i'll probably be bugin you guys all the time. Thanks again.

Yeah, you figure a new left over 08 800 can be had from $6200-$6500 easily. Doesn't make you feel to good about trading huh? But hey see what they offer you..you never know. If the guy is that clueless maybe he'll give you a mint and sell you the XP for a tad more than an 800.
If he qoutes a price for the 850 several hundred dollars higher than a new '09 800(which he will) ask him why so much price difference? Then say I thought you said they were basically the same?
LOL

I have a new 850 but i owned 2 800s before a 05 and a 07 and loved them both, they will do anything that the 850 will do and i think they are still better than other brand machines. The xp is in a class of its own now with its power ,and new suspensiion it just fits the rider better and is so smooth.Ride your 800 for a while and trade for a 850 when the newness of them wears off,you will get a better deal then.

Sounds like I need a new dealer. He did say they are about the same, no kidding, this was in July right before the 850 was out. My 800 had about 300 miles on it when I asked him about the 850. maybe he didnt get a chance to ride one at that point. Not sure, probably was feeling the pressure to unload the 800's. How does the 850 run with the can am's? My 800 with hang with the outty on trails and I think it's better in the mud and on hills. It just sucks when you pull up to a nice wide, straight part and the outty walks on ya.. what can you get for a 800 trading it in for a 850?</end quote></div>

If this was in July then I'd go back and talk to him again and see if his point of view has changed! He has more than likely learned a lot more about the XP's since then!
I don't feel the need for speed that a lot of guys do but the power, suspention, handling and true 4 wheel drive are what I go for! Don't get me wrong, I like to jump on it now and then but it's not my main concern that I have to go fast!

HO is right you will probably get more for your 800 by selling it outright, rather than trading it in.
Good luck!

Thanks guys, maybe i'll call the dealer and see what he'll give me for it. Probably not much...ahh I'm just going to keep the ol 800 for a while. I don't wanna lose a couple grand to step up to the 850..now they put a 900 out...hmm. Just kidding. I'll hang on to it, i want to get that air filter and EFI controller and go from there. Unless I hit the lotto...come on baby...

Yeah I don't blame you. The only reason I did it was I injured my shoulder and had to have surgery which has tunred into a long drawn out process to recover from. Riding the 800 aggravated the injury. It was either get something easier to steer, suck it up(which wasn't enjoyable at all,) or quit riding. Of those the only option really was get something easier to steer. Thankfully Polaris came out with the much easier to steer XP,I would have hated to jump ship.

I have an 850, my dad has a new 800. Most people like the XP better, but not everyone. You have to decide for yourself.

The one thing the 800 is better at is work type stuff. Not powerwise, but the 800 has bigger racks. Works a little better for some things. The 800 also comes with the front storage where the 850 does not. I bought the front and rear storage boxes. Work nice for trail riding, but I take off the front box and put back on the rack with extenders for certain things like deer hunting. I like the racks as well as the storage, but for different things.

I knew I liked you. That is some good advice. Just don't try it with me. I know the difference. 850 is awesome and the 800 can be had new for a great price. Just sold my last new one.

I've got an idea... keep the 800 and get a new 850XP too. LOL (just kidding)

Remember, the 800 is no slouch. Personally, I wouldn't worry about another quad beating you in a race. There's a lot more to a quad than that.

Good luck.

Yeah, I'm not going to sweat it. I'll just wait untill the vista-lock thing kicks in suddenly and they flip the can ams while going up hill....lol. That actually happened.. anyways, Someone will always have something a little faster or newer than what you have no matter what you ride i guess, just so you are riding.
