Fresh oil smelled like oil the last time I checked.

I just smelled an old partial bottle of Premium 4 and it doesn't smell like gas to me. It has a "plastic" smell.

Is premium 4 the Polaris brand? If not it does not qualify in this sniff off....

I broke down and got the shop to do the $200 maintenance service (50 hours). I want to be sure everything is running fine....

hopefully you didnt overfill your oil last time you added oil. i did that to my yamamaha 1000watt generator and it smoked like a ****.....and the dip stick smelled like straight gas...i think its better to be a lil low on oil than to overfill...in the case of my generator a seal had to be replaced internally....cost me 160 bucks..hope you get your problem resolved.....plz post what the final outcome was..and how you resolved it......good luck

Yeah. That's the old 0W-40. I've had a nasty head cold for over 2 months so my sniffer is probably off a bit too.

All checked out. No problems according to the dealer. The 50 hour inspection was $200.00 which included an oil change.

I don't have any oil to smell but I can huff some gasoline if that'll help..LOL. J/K

I'd say you're probably ok just keep an eye on the oil level after you get it changed.
