Torn CV Boot
I did one last month. It was my first time. My opinion, completely disassemble the CV joint. Remove the cage and bearings. Be careful to note which side of the cage is up. Found a good video on Youtube of a guy disassembling the joint. At first, it does not seem like it will come apart but keep working at it. Once it is apart, clean it up with soap and water. Use a good diswashing detergent as they are designed to dissolve grease and do not leave behind a film like some solvents. They rust fast so be ready to reassemble before you take it apart for cleaning.
I tried 3 different brands of aftermarket boots and felt the fit was poor. I eventually went with the OEM and there was a noticeable difference in the fit. Some of the aftermarkets may be thicker but they just did not fit as snugly as the OEM.
Good Luck.
