Default Oil change question

I was reading the owners manual on my bike and it described a procedure for purging air when changing the oil on my 500 Sportsman. I was wondering if this process was necessary if you just drain the oil and spin on another filter. I want to do it right but I guess I need to look at it before I say its too hard. I called the local dealer about an oil change but they want $125.00 for an oil chage.

You do NOT have to purge the system if you just drain the oil and filter.

Here's a link that might help..

No, no need to purge air unless you remove an oil line. Save $$ and use Mobil 1 Sythetic and a NAPA filte 51358 or wix 1358 (same filter) available at auto parts stores.

It will cost you $13 in oil (2 qts) and $10 for the filter if you stay away from the Polaris dealer.

I believe that the manual says on my 500 x2, you only have to prime the oil pump if you remove the oil clamp/hose/tank. So I guess if you just change the oil/filter, you don't have to.
