help with winch???

I've seen some of you guys talking about synthetic winch ropes. What all do I need to get to convert my winch over to have rope on it, and where is the best place to get it from. Called one of the local part stores and they can order the synthetic rope but they do not know what all I need to switch it over. It is a 2.5ci Warn.

I've seen alot of discussion on this one, Michael. They recommend getting a new fairlead as well when you buy the winch. Nicks and scratches in the old fairlead will deteriorate the synthetic much more quickly than the wire rope.

Moose is correct but as long as the rollers are burr free you should be ok........I switched to a composite hawse fairlead when I initially bought my synthetic but went back to my roller....You're gonna want a 3/16" by 50', some get 75' on the drum but I put 50'...Keep an eye out when your taking the last few feet of wire cable off as there will be a small "button" that you'll need for the synthetic when you respool......Keep track of the way the wire comes off and put the syn. on the same direction...There's a few different types of syn. out there...just to name a couple......Amsteel and Masterpull......Feel free to ask more questions when you're ready to do it...If you're gonna be plowing with it I'd suggest a shorter piece like I have maybe 10'...

Thanks for the help. The only reason that I would like to switch is because when I got the bike the winch was only about 6' long. It helps getting me out but I have to use my strap with it to reach something. Wish it was longer alot of times.

Thanks John,
But in southern Arkansas we don't get a whole lot of snow to speak of. Do you know about how much it will cost to switch over to rope.

That was probably used for plowing...A short section is used because it doesn't get wrapped as many times around the drum.....When you plow there's alot of in and out and a long section tends to get "sucked" in towards the center of the drum.........A short piece remedies this......
