the reverse is probably caused by a maladjustment on the shift linkage.
if the recoil doesnt turn the flywheel i would take the recoil housing off and see what is stuck shut on the recoil part or if the basket or cogs are still on the fly wheel. .....to follow up....it will not start at all...the fly wheel does not turn at all after tryin to put it in fwd. the fly wheel caused the starter to be mangled...any suggestion?...removing fly wheel? ceased pistons? something else

Sorry snupills, it seems like you are missing some context in your thread or you meant this
