I am new to the ATV world, I just bought a 2006 sportsman 800EFI for hunting and would like to plow and/or use it for four-wheeling. I need to buy a winch, but can't decide on which brand (Polaris, Warn) or what size to get (2500, 3000). Does anyone have a good recommendation for a new winch? Thanks for the help!!

 

I would go with the Warn made for your Polaris... the 2500 should be all you need. Get it with the synthetic rope if you can.

 

I say get a warn and nothing else. And a 2500# will be plenty unless you will be winching things other than your wheeler. I have had no trouble with my polaris winch but there are many people on this forum that have.

warn 3000#..dont wast your time or $$$ on junk..i have the warn 2500# on my wheeler i i abuse the hell out of it,my ONLY regret is i sould have went 3000# or bigger..the 2500# will do the job,but i hate to max something out and i have seen smoke a few times ..still going strong

 

I have a Warn 2500 on mine and it has never let me down...

I've had good luck with both Warn and Polaris, and Ramsey is suppossed to be one of the better brands. I won't screw around with all the rest.

My 2500 has been very dependable. If money is no problem go with the bigger!

I have a Ramsey and never had a problem out of it and I use it all the time rock crawling and mud hole surfing. I've rode with people that use the gorilla and they are ok for limited use. They get hot faster than Ramsey or Warn and draw more amps. Gorilla also stands behind their winch without hesitation. Gotta say I'd stick with Ramsey though.
