Default Roller cage or not

My 04.5 SP500 4x4 is giving me problems...I know big surprise! Sometimes it works other times nothing. There has been no crunching or grinding in the front. It seems to work more in reverse. I have had a problem with the electronics in the pod. It usually won't read H or R and it never reads 4X4. It will read L or P. I jacked it up and diconnected the AWD switch and the 4 wheel drive worked. Could it be electrical or the roller cage. Any help would be great

Thanks

Sounds like it has a good chance of being electrical based on the symptoms...
I'd guess gear position switch..some years are a litte different but generally the system will not engage AWD if the switch isn't indicating that the transmission is in H,L or R..i'd start there...
