I replaced the stator on my Polaris Sportsman 500. Now it does not start with the starter, it turns over good but nothing. If you pull the recoil it starts right up. Anyone experience this? Thanks for the help Jamie

 

whats the voltage of the battery? i have seen where it would turn over by the starter and not have enough juice to fire it. just a thought.

 

The Battery reads 12.1vdc when sitting while turning over it reads 11.7 vdc. I'm confused as to why it will start when you pull the recoil though.

 

dose the starter actuly turn the engine over?

 

The Startor cranks the engine over normally it just won't start.

 

wow. thats strainge!!!! but it will start when you used the recoil??? strainge!!

 

Found this on a post before and it may be of some help. Different machine but same problem

:
2002 SCRAMBLER 500 4X4 WOULD NOT START WITH KEY, IT WOUKD TURN OVER BUT NOT FIRE, IT HAD SPARK, IT WOULD START FINE WITH PULL ROPE.
REMOVED RECOIL, FLYWHEEL AND SENSOR COIL. CLEANED SENSOR COIL, IT HAS TWO CIRCUITS, CLEANED DIRT AND FILINGS FROM IN BETWEEN TWO METAL STRIPS, ALSO ON NEWER MODELS THE SENSOR COIL IS ADJUSTABLE.
I FILED MOUNTING HOLES SO I COULD MOVE CLOSER TO FLYWHEEL.
ELECTRIC START NOW WORKS PERFECT.
HOPE THIS MAY HELP OTHERS FROM HAVING THE SAME FRUSTRATIONS I HAD.

 

Thanks for the information. I just replaced the stator but maybe something is not right with it. Does anyone know what the pulsar coil is intended to do?

The part in the bold print may have been overlooked, maybe?

 

Do you know which coil is the Sensor Coil? Is the the coil on the external part of the flywheel?
