Default Went under the knife

Man guys thanks a lot. I missed the thread from Friday and I do appreciate it. I think I'm doing good so far, I took a shower today and that was awesome the best I've felt for a while. The docs around here are so weird about pain meds they only gave me Tylenol 3's but whatever I'm taking them. They had given me 2 vicodan at the hospital which were at least a lil better. My hip is hurting pretty bad and that is kinda slowing me down. I feel best when I'm standing up or walking but I can only do that until my hip starts hurting then I'm back down laying. I cant sit at all and thats a killer.

I hurt myself taking my fiberglass extension ladder down from a utility pole back in Feb. 08. It's something I do probably 20-40 times a day but this time it caught me wrong and I twisted when it dropped down on my shoulder and bam that was it. After extensive therapy, injections, MRI's, and some other tests, they came to the conclusion that I wasnt getting better without surgery and while he was in there he said nothing else would have fixed it beside cutting out the pieces of disc and getting them off my nerves.

HDD- How long til you felt like you could bend forward a little? Right now I feel like if I bend or twist I'm gonna break. Did you have a lot of pain in your leg? I had nerve pain b4 in my lower back radiating down my right leg and now I have a different pain in it, kinda hard to explain but maybe you know what I'm talking about.

Again I want to thank all you guys for the well wishes, it truly means a lot right now. And I hear ya R on that back rest, I've been thinking about one. Kinda sucks my warranty is probably gonna run out on my 800 while I'm laid up and it's just sitting in the shed. Hopefully it will be trouble free like the 500!!!

Best wishes on a speedy recovery. Back issues are the worst. Nothing shows but you end up being so restricted and in constant pain. I hope you have a full recovery and are able to do the things you enjoy pain free.
Take care,
Dave

I'm just now (about 11 weeks post) getting my FULL range of motion back. You'll start noticing an improvement by the end of the second week though. I was able to start driving again after two weeks.
As far as pain in my leg...yes I had SEVERE pain, could only walk a few feet, could not sit, the only position that brought relief was laying on my stomach. I really feared spending my life in a wheel chair at one point...I was scared!
I also (and still do sometimes) had weird/different pains after surgery especially the first three weeks. I still get sore easy and find that walking has been the best at relieving the soreness. You will have strange pains/sensations for awhile and maybe even always but they sure are MUCH easier to bear the the constant unrelenting pains experienced before surgery.
I've been cleared by the Doc to start riding again as long as I take it easy. I've also been on a few good hikes with a small backpack/day pack and my trusty Ruger 10/22, man did it feel good to hike through the woods!....squirells didn't enjoy my hike like I did LOL!
You'll get back to doing normal things but don't rush it! You will always have to be more careful now too, but hey careful is better than laying around in pain right!
I feel pretty good most days and soon you will too!
Oh...um...be real careful with the bell ringing you don't need to have a bell surgically removed from your ***....that hurts!

Glad to hear you're doing okay after the surgery, Rowe. I'm going to ask the doctor again about what they can do about my disk.

I had back surgery back in 2001 so I know what you are going threw. I had consistent pain down the back of my left leg. After living with the pain for 9-10 months and taking alot of physical therapy with no improvement I decided to have surgery. That day right after the surgery I could done tell a difference in my leg pain, it was almost gone. I still have some bad days with my back but I have learned to take it easy and that something you will have to do also. Feb. of this year will be 8 years since I had it done and have no regret having the surgery. With all that being said I hope you have a speedy & pain free recovery.
