Default scrambler shift indicator

2001 scrambler, where is the switch for the switch indicator(neutral and reverse on dash)?sometimes it work and sometimes it doesn't. is it that the shifter is out of adjustment? I think this is why i have no 4x4 in reverse sometimes because the indicator will say neutral and really I'm in reverse, when the dash says reverse the 4x4 will work.
thanks for your ideas

its on the right side of the transmission case. usually has 4 or 5 wires coming from it, its flat and about 1" wide. wires normally point down then curve back up to meet with the rest of the harness

Just in case this helps, you might want to take a quick read of this thread. While it is not your make or model, and the switch is in a different place altogether, it might at least give you some idea of what I got into with a similar problem. I have no idea how the switch works on the 2001 models, but I am betting there is some similarity regarding the electrical and maybe even the mechanical design.
