A clutch kit,hi flow air filter, decent exhaust such as an Aaen,FMF or White Bros( best slip on if you can find one) or ProCircit or HPD for full exhaust. After these a lighter set of wheels is nice.

You can go with a clutch kit and filter for less than $200 and hold off on the pipe

HPD has a good kit for a stock 500 that is reasonable.RcR sells Dalton kits they are about the best but cost a little more.
Not hard to install with basic tools but you may need an extra set of hands to preload the spring in the secondary.
A rule of thumb I use on air filters is if I wont be in water that may get into the air box I run a K&N w/prefilter
in wettter conditions I like UNI or Twin Air.Any filter is good as long as you keep it serviced

I'd give Rick Ritter @ Ritter Cycle a call, from what I hear he'll get you what you need, and I'm sure he would help you out with install instructions
