Polaris HD Springs Installed
Well - it was only 10-degrees outside but I couldn't wait any longer. Supposed to get 4-8 inches of snow and I wanted to install the HD Spings to test them out plowing tomorrow.
Here are the instructions for a 2008 SP500 X2
First - tools required:
- Ratchet
- 3/8" socket
- 1/2" socket
- 3/4" open end wrench
- T25 Torx driver
First thing you need to do is remove front storage box. Remove four bolts inside the box (1/2") and the eight torx screws (T25 - four from the top - four from the bottom).
Here is the quad with the box removed
Next while holding the strut rod with a 3/8" socket remove the top nut using a 3/4" open end wrench.
Lift off the washer, rubber spacer, and upper pivot ball.
Next jack the quad up until the wheels are barely still on the ground.
Move the strut away from the upper support to get access to the spacer nut.
Remove the round spacer from the top of the strut. While holding the strut with the 3/8" socket remove the spacer nut using the 3/4" open end wrench. Lift off the pivot ball and spring retainer.
Now remove the spring and put the new spring over the strut.
Place the spring retainer over, and install the spacer nut. You will need to push down on the spring some to get the nut started, but should not need a spring compressor. Tighten the nut using a the 3/4" open end wrench. Install the lower pivot ball over the nut.
Place the strut under the frame support and line up the best you can. Start lowering the quad while realigning the strut as you lower.
Once lowered reinstall the upper pivot ball and washer over the top of the strut. Put the nut back on the top and tighthen using the 3/4" open end wrench. Torque to 15 ft-lbs.
Here is a pic of the new springs installed. If you get all your tools ready this should take about a half an hour start to finish. This was the easist mod I've done so far.

5* J's*,
That was a GREAT write up and pictorial! This will help a bunch of folks out (maybe including me). Too bad we didn't have a "sticky" section in these forums. This would be one of several great posts for a section like that.
As "R" said, let us know how they perform!

Short day on the ice Rtick. (Going out all day tomorrow so I just put in a half day today). Caught a 14 1/2" Rainbow Trout and three white perch.
Going out plowing in a little while. I'll give the new springs a test. They upped the forecast. We're supposed to get 12 inches now.
