If the machine is doing ok I'd probably just leave it alone. I would however buy a spare belt and carry it with me on the trail. As they say if it ain't broke don't fix it!

My belt is still original and has 2000+ miles on it , I took a look at it and just put the cover back on, it was in that good of shape,but it still is nice to know for piece of mind.

I have 6350 miles on the belt of my 2007 Sportsman 500 efi..The belt cover has a rubber gasket (seal) which I change with the belt which I will be doing shortly...very easy to do...

If you replace the rubber gasket it will seallike new. I ride in deep water and have never had a problem resealing the cover but I replace the rubber gasket. Your belt is most likely fine.
