im thinking of making my own muffler for my 500 scrambler. im gonna use either stainless or aluminum. i work in a fab shop so getting material is no problem, (i was thinking 4 or 5 inch tube) my question is should i make it straight through like a cherry bomb or will that be way to loud? or not enough restriction(if there is such a problem with lack of restriction)

If I remember corrrectly the 500 is a 4 stroke. there are several things that need to be taken into consideration. The length of the pipe will determine the power distribution from top to bottom. second You need a spark arrestor/muffler to make it leagel to ride in certain areas for noise restirctions and sparks containment. Four stroke love the flow. so you have to be able to open up both ends to get the correct flow. good luck
