Default AWD works when it wants to

im new to the site and i need some help please

i have a 2004.5 sportsman 700 mossy oak edition and im having problems with the awd not engaging all the time especially when the plow is on and im in reverse. when it does want to work sometimes it seems to shift into 4x4 hard with a jolt i can feel through the handle bars, ive read on here it could be the roller cage but it seems to me in those cases the awd does not work at all. also the awd seems to work better when the weather is warmer and it seems to take more then 1/5 of a spin from the back tires for it to kick in as well.
note: the speedometer works perfect, the awd light turns on and off like its suppose to the battery is newer and holds a charge well.

also has anyone heard of this model machine not having a pull start or grease fittings because ive heard mix things. my buddy and i have checked the service manual for grease fitting locations and then checked the machine and cannot find any grease nipples on this machine anywhere

if anyone can help me with any of these problems i would really appreciate it
thanks a lot

chad

no 700/800 polaris has a pull start. the broken roller cage acts differntly depending on how its broke. sometimes it will go into awd when te switch isnt even pudhed and other times it wont work in reverse or does what you describe in your bike. if your pod shows awd and thier is power going down into the front end to the hillard clutch to lock the awd then the issue has got to be in side. the newer bike say 04 and up dont have that many grease fitting like the older ones. should be a couple though like on the front drive shaft i beleave. imo.

I'd say you busted the roller cage
