The 500 H.O cam has a higher duration than the non H.O 500 motor . I don,t think they make a hotter one.
Did you stay with 0W-40, I hear of people with premature cam issues who use 5W or 10W weight oils.
It has something to due with the tight tolerances of the oil pump, it needs a thinner 0W or 2W(now) to get oil flowing quickly to the motor,s cam.

On this site, 500 HP Stages
they do have a longer duration cam without the need of a higher compression piston with there stage 3.
I always thought a racing piston was need for the longer duration than stock cams.
