Default 850 don't start at -15 F

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>Originally posted by: BPM

Its happen twice i tried to start it the day after, didn't start then either.

It seems to run rough on start up even when it warm out. Like the idle is to low.

But after it runs for a bit it clears right up. Is there a way to ajust the ilde on the EFI's for start up?

I'll check the voltage next chance i get and compair it to what biz wrote.

Thanks for the input guys</end quote></div>
If the battery voltage checks the next thing I would look at is the plugs due to the problems some people have had with them fouling....especially if no codes are present and nothing else is obviously wrong..
Are you getting the check engine icon when it starts and runs rough? You need to see if you are getting any codes, the procedure for checking them is in the owners manual..
In addition to the stuff biz suggested also check voltage drop while cranking...that is going to be the most important test for your symptoms...if no load voltage is 12.6 or higher voltage should not drop below 9.5 while cranking.
The idle on the XP is controlled by the IAC(Idle air cotrol) valve..the throttle plate can be adjusted but it isn't the right way..and if it only does it sometimes I doubt it is an idle issue..unless maybe the IAC is sticking Idle should be around 1200...

Don't smell any gas in the oil. But i will keep an eye on it.
I didn't smell any gas from the exhaust either when it wouldn't start.

I have started mine in -10 F quite often, but no issues, in fact I have never even had to hold the key over, just flip it and release, the thing is running. They seem to run awful rich, maybe yours got a little too rich. I have heard rumors that a differnt fuel map is available, maybe your dealer can look into that for you.

Has anyone bought new plugs yet? I went to order some when I bought it, but the parts query came up empty. The dealer called Polaris and they said that information is not available yet! Perhaps the plug situation is/was getting reworked. I haven't tried gettting plugs since OCT, so maybe they have new ones now. Thought I would throw that out there too.

Let the buzz of the fuel pump stop FIRST before attempting to start.

I have no probs starting my EFI Sportsmans in the cold.

Never pump the gas, you just made it 10X worse.

I've had my 500s start okay when it was -10F here. As MTPockets said, let the fuel pump prime and don't try to start until the pump stops. When it's cold it may take a couple extra chugs on the starter but shouldn't be that hard.

You may also be sure you are running regular unleaded, as premium will make it harder to start any EFI machine when cold if it is not designed for premium fuel.

My dealer said the plugs have changed 3 times depending on production date, they couldn't answer why, have you guys heard anything about this? They also said they've not heard anyone complain about the back firing.
