2000 sportsman and coolant level ????
#1
Hello, I have a 2000 spotrsman and it started overheating on a short run. I noticed there was no coolant in the overflow bottle. After filling the radiator, I ran the machine for 3.5 hours and had no problems. The next day I noticed ther was very minimal coolant in the overflow bottle. I then proceeded to fill the radiator again ( it did not take very much). I then filled the overflow bottle to the max line. After a short ride (20 min) the overflow botttle was overflowing coolant out the little vent hole. I didn't touch anything and ran the machine for about 1 hour with no problems. After the machine cooled down the coolant level in the overflow bottle was below min level. What is going on?
Thanks,
Jim

If fan is cycling on and off and no hot light, you may have had a little air in system. To be sure you can run with radiator cap off while machine is in well ventilated area until fan comes on which usually sucks down coolant level and gets rid of air,top off radiator,THEN fill coolant bottle. Normal though for a little coolant to be sucked back and forth, just like a car. IF continues to blow coolant out resevoir bottle, then suspect bad radiator cap if fan cycles ok,radiator isnt stopped up with debris /dirt,etc.
