Default Winter Battery change

Just finished changing the battery in the wife's quad....in Michigan at 12F. Battery would not come out of the battery box......one hour later with the wifes blow dryer it came out. There was a perfect 1/8" thick layer of mud and debris frozen on the battery housing. The drain holes were open. What I suspect is that after numerous mud bogging trip the box became filled with mud. Excess water drained out and the rest frozen around the battery.. Next fall the batteries with come out and boxes cleaned prior to old man winter arriving.
