Worst thing for a Polaris/ATV?
#12
I exp. first hand to see my cousin do donuts on hard pack up in the mountains, goofing off, with his brand new 2006 Anniversary Silver Sportsman 800 throw him about 15 feet into a fence voilently/abruptly while spinning, topooling, going belly up tires up in the air quad still spinning. One of the most scariest things I ever saw. All the dust in the air I only saw silver and tires and thought for that quick second he was under his quad. He came away with bad road burn from neck-shoulder-down the arm to elbow and his side, shirt ripped up, dent and scratch to his helmet, he was dazed, dizzy.
HE WAS FORTUNATE!
His quad all scratched/scuffed up, several break cracks all over the plastic, smashed cargo box, bent handlebars, damaged winch rocker switch, scuffed rims/wheels, torked rear rack (I think that saved his rear rack et al) all totaled to 2k with damages, his show bike quality greatly disfigured and his MAN-EGO smashed. But he is NOW more Humble and less RISKY!
As for me double/triple check your throttle assy. and brake controls as tight and secure before each ride. A loose throttle assy. with anything like DONUT circle grip FLAPS could be DANGEROUS causing throttle stick. Happened to me and landed me into my backyard deck and may not be here now if I was over about a foot or two.
Be safe!

DO NOT under any circumstances sit and rev your polaris or this will happen to you:

That is a blown Polaris Primary clutch. That happened because I was sitting there reving my motor.Let it warm up by itself. That is a 400$ repair.

scrambler400enoge,
Are you sure that is what that was from or that previous damage was sustained and you put the cap on it?
I never heard of that before. WOW!
P.S. The tone of this response IS NOT sarcastic, that would be messed up if we are that prone to clutch failures
from revving. Than again I don't know it all!

Just wondering what things I should avoid doing with my ATV</end quote></div>
Don't ride at high speed in between trees. A couple of factors will come into play:
1. Your ATV is a bit wider than you think it is and the trees your aiming to squeeze between are just a little closer together than you think they are.
2. If your ATV will physically squeeze between the two trees your front tire will have an unstoppable urge to reach out and ever so slightly grab one of the trees which will result in broken front end or broken arms or wrists.
Oh and before riding through a pasture at high speed carefully check for large holes that weren't there the last time.

Dont try to be Evil Kneivel , 800 lb. machines dont land very gracefully, Ive welded the frames back together after the crash, and the secondary clutch buttons dont like teh sudden stop when you land either.

The clutch is made of Magnesium. If there had been any crack in it,it would have given out long before IMO.It wasn't a belt thing because when it happened the belt came out completely intact.I wasn't even going over quarter throttle, and Bang.If I were to add up the entire cost it took to fix it,it came out to 750$.Clutch,clutch cover, rear cover, all of that was damaged. So go ahead and sit and rev it,but I let it warm up by itself.
