Oil Change Kits

Interesting HO.........not sure about that.
I know that Polaris has changed the oil from the previous years.
I also know for sure that the 800 filter is different than the XP filter, inside and out.
The oil change kit for the XP just simply says "XP models" on it. I have read of some people putting a cross referenced 800 filter on a 550 also, but I wouldn't recommend that.

I thought the 550 was a Polaris engine, and the 500 was a fuji?????</end quote></div>
You know you could be right I can't confirm, but I want to say I heard the 550 was Fuji as well...
Edit-If you believe this site then it is a Fuji...check the spec chart at the bottom...

No, the 550 is made by Fuji and the 850 by Polaris.

Yes the 800 filter is obviously different and should not cross...
On that note kind of..
Apparently you have to be very careful using a cross referenced filter..especially if it is one designed for an auto,or not designed for an ATV/Powersports application...they may look identical but apparently the flow and pressure drop specs can be quite different..
I have not cofirmed this but have read where people were using an auto filter that crossed and one individual decided to run some tests and discovered oil pressure going into the filter was extremely high so he contacted the filter manufacturer and they told to NOT use the filter as it was only designed for auto use and the flow and pressure/flow specs were way off for a powersports application.
On a side side note the 850 has an internal regulato that regualtes oil pressure to 85 psi..that relieves excess pressure by dumping the oil back to the pan. The regulator is just before the filter.

Thats what I like to know would my oil change kit I bought for my Sp450 (2006) work for my 2008 SP800?
Regards,
R'</end quote></div>
The Twins use a heavier weight oil........ 0W-40 singles......2W50 Twins.</end quote></div>
I was told by my dealer that the 0w40 kits are no longer available thus 2w50 will now be the standard oil for the 500's .

The same filter with 2 different numbers? That is strange!
If the filters are different then how can the kits be the same?</end quote></div>
It could be as simple as the 550 comes from Fuji with a filter installed, could be the same specs but different manufacturers. Also some have noticed on some models that the filter that comes from the factory on the machine looks slightly different than the "OEM" replacement.
So while the 850 and 550 might use the same specs for the filter the actual filter from the factory is likely made by different manufacturers...that is my theory anyway,lol..</end quote></div>
That is just how mine was! The oem replacement was SLIGHTLY smaller in diameter compared to the factory one. And the factory filter said subaru on it. I would think they come from the factory with slighty different filters but the replacement is the same.

Again that is likely because the 850 is made by Polaris so they actually use the same filter that they supply as a replacement, where the 550 is made by Fuji and likely supplied to Polaris with a filter obatined by Fuji from a different manufacturer...BTW Suburu is made by Fuji Heavy Industries...
I guessing that the Polaris parts fiche number for the 550 is the Fuji/Suburu filter.
