Default can i use a fram oil filter and how

my dealer is screwing me on price for oil filters. I was hoping to go to the local farm dealership and pick up some fram filters for half the price. Any ideas how to get the right ones. Can I just take off my old oil filter and hold it up and compare it to a fram and hope it fits........I have a sportsman 400 and 500. I also have a cub cadet with a kawasaki 23hp engine that he is charging me $15.00 for a friggin filter

help

jeff

Fram PH6017A is the cross over part # for most polaris. Double check.

Napa PS1358
Wix 51358
AMsoil EaOM103 or EaOM103C

wow I did a search on this site about fram filters. I couldn't beleive the battle going on about this issue. I don't really care if its fram or napa, I am just tired of paying an inflated price from my dealer.

Say Mongrol, those numbers u gave me, will they work on both quads I mentioned or just one.

thanks

jeff

If the 400 is the 08 sportman 400HO yes it fits. If its the older 400 you should cross the numbers to make sure. But the 500 for sure.

Just checked and it fits the 400 also. Double check pn Tylers link.

Buy a NAPA 1358 or Wix 51358. Fram are not good filters.

Weedy, please don't make broad statements like "Fram are not good filters" without giving your reasons.

I think most of us would like to know what your info is based on or is it just personal preference.

I don't have loyalty to any brand so maybe I can learn something from your experience.

Thanks

Afternoon Boys, We all don't use the stock oil filters, so here is something to remember,

info from Mobile One

Question:
Reason for Check Valves in Engine Oil Filters
What is the function of a check valve in engine oil filter?
-- Shafeeq Bandagi, Bloomfield Hills, MI
Answer:
The check valve function is used to prevent dry starts that could occur if the filter was allowed to drain dry during standing. It also serves to ensure that oil is always present in the filter, especially when the vehicle is started.

I use the Purolator PL14610 oil filter, not the P14610. that one don't have the check valve in it. I also use the Mobile One 0-40 oil and any good synthetic tranny fluid for the tranny. The only thing I use from Polaris it the front Hilliard tranny fluid, There are a few good oil filters you can use, just make DARN sure it has the check valve in it. Our oil filters are on the side, not the bottom,,
