Spark plug.

How do you remove the sparkplug on a 2006 500efi. I tried to use the tool from the tool kit, can't even get the wrench on it let alone get my hand in there. Any Ideas? If it's this hard to get it out, I'm worried about crossthreading it when I try to put it back. Thanks for any help.

Well said, the rubber hose is a tech trick used all over, it really works too! Also, when you put the NEW
in, I just drop it in turn tight with the rubber hose end then apply the deep spark plug socket. FYI, my
spark plug socket containing the rubber insert worked real well with an extension. Your right it is REAL
tight to get your hand in there, but you CAN DO IT! I have done a few plug replacements, you will see how
it goes once you finish with this task. I do wish it was easier though...

Here's what I did, I used a Craftsman spark plug socket.
Drop the socket into the hole and work it on to the plug.
Attach ratchet and loosen.
Remove ratchet and unscrew plug/socket by hand.
There was just enough room that I could get the socket and plug out, but that's because the Craftsman has a rubber piece in it that helps to hold the plug in the socket. But if it wasn't there, a piece of rubber hose like mentioned above works great.
Put new plug in the socket and drop them into the hole.
Thread carefully by hand.
Put ratchet on and tighten.
Remove ratchet.
Remove socket.
I agree, it's very tight in there and not an easy, quick swap!!
Don't forget to gap your spark plug!
Good Luck!

But how are you sure you have cleared all of the cylinder destroying dust, grime and dried mud that resides in the sparkplug area without seeing into the area around the spark plug? Thank you engineers!!

Thanks for the input. When I had my 2004.5 500HO the spark plug was far easier to get to. The 2006 500 efi is totally different. I will try the rubber hose, it's just hard to get any kind of wrench on the plug period. About a year ago, I asked my local dealer to change the spark plug. He wanted a couple of hundred dollars to do it. Said he had to remove the gas tank. Why would they put a sparkplug wrench in the tool kit if you can't use it. Must be a better way with the 500efi. Thanks again.

My '03 600 is very hard to get to as well. I used my wifes compact case mirror and set it in there and then was at least able to see the angle the plug was at. I also had so much dirt and grime that I had to use a super small screwdriver to scrape the debris that was wedged in there so I could get the socket on the plug.
I think the spark plug wrench is just a courtesy.
