I was using mine moving snow today -13 F I noticed the a whine in the rear end as well when on the gas. I think its the roller clutch snowmobiles make the kind of noise I'm hearing in the cold. I used it all day high 9 F it never went away today. I'll keep an ear on mine next week to see if it goes away suppose to be 40 F.

It could be the rear end. When it's that cold out the fluid isn't really as fluid as fluid needs to be. (Yes, I did that on purpose). It's probably not getting as much lubrication as it would at a lower temp.

Hey, MooseHenden I'm thinking you meant at higher temp. Rode mine again today, 18 F no noise I think moose is right about the rear end.

Hey Mega, you're right. I don't sleep well because of a bad back and it effects my cranial abilities. I did mean when it gets really cold fluid can tend to coagulate and not get into the gears. Warming up a little temp. wise would allow it to get into the gears. I don't know if it is that much of an issue having a little noise when it is cold. I think overheating a gearcase would be worse for it. The opposite end is when it gets so hot that the oil breaks down and isn't lubing well.

Turns out the rear diff was set up too tight from factory/supplier and was making all the noise. New diff is on the way and replaced under warrenty.

Went for a ride this past weekend and all is quiet now. Had it up to 72mph on the speedo. Not as much power as i thought it would have. Can't really wheele it either. But I only have about 100 miles on it so far. I'm sure it will come alive after it's broke in. Sure does ride nice though.

You probably just need to get used to the throttle. The 850 seems to have a throttle body cam profile that softens the response at lower throttle settings(makes it more controllable)..ie it seems that the 1st 1/3 or throttle movement or so doesn't have the same affect as the mid and upper 1/3. Nail it from a stop with decent traction and I promise you you won't stay in the throttle long without feathering it..mine will stand up even if I am laid over on the bars..
