Default replacing winch line, HOW?!

My winch line snapped on me... it was kinked and what not, and i had really buried it... but it snapped and flew towards the tree i was winching to, real fast... apparently me telling everyone to stand clear every time i used it was REAL smart.

So i unraveled it till the very end and tried tugging on it.. no go... so i turned the drum over and tried hitting it through that way... didnt move...

is there a set screw in there, how do i get to it?

Not sure what kind of winch you have. If you don't see a screw or clip of some sort on the top of the drum, then yours probably has the end of the cable crimped over in the shape of a closed hook. Try pulling it out from the side where it's anchored to see if it like that. If so, you can straighten it out... and pull it through the slot in the drum.

my warn has a small pee sized like a ball bearing cept flat that the cable wraps around then gets pulled tight to hole the cable in. my warn winch has a set screw. it was a allen head.

DCT that did it... i was trying to push the closed in through, and it wouldnt go... i never though to push it out first... doh!

saw what you said, went out with a pair of pliers, pushed it right out... under 30 secconds...

and to think i spent a good 30-45 minutes tring to hammer it the wrong way, and just playing with it...

THANKS!

are you replacing with rope or cable??
I bought 40' of Stainless Steel cable, for like $18-$20 at Lowes, and put the eye on the end myself, versus the $30-$40 for regular cable

i put a bid on 55' of cable from Warn on ebay for 20 bucks... so if i get that cool, if not, then i'll probably just do like 700sportsman and just buy some SSC from tractor supply, throw a loop for a d-ring or hook on the end and call it a day...

What size wire is stock and how long?

No problem. Crazy how they make all these different type connections to the drum.

BTW, it is probably 50 ft of 3/16" cable if you have standard winch.
