Hi could you please if possible let me know if the Carlisle 489 tires are 3 ply or 6 ply . Does 3 stars on the side of your tires mean 6 ply thus 2 ply per star . Thanks for taking the time to answer .
Thank you for your interest in Carlisle Tire & Wheel. Not exactly, the star rating actually only addresses the PSI of the tire. Example would be a 2 star tire as a max PSI of 4 lbs. Where a 3 star tire has a max PSI of 7. What this actually does is allow more face of the tire to make contact with the surface. When inflating to higher PSI's this causes the tire to stand tall and narrow, thereby losing the contact with the surface.
The AT489's range from 4 ply to 6 ply.</end quote></div>
If the tires range from 4 to 6 ply why does the chart only show 2 star and 3 star? Their answer doesn't sound right to me.
