Taking a machine from a dealer for a road test would probably not work to check for a whine.
The machine at the dealer has been sitting in a warm show room so the lubricants will be warm and probably not give You the desired effects of having it sitting out overnight at -15 or so.
It would probably take 3 to 4 hours of sitting out in the cold to get the components cooled off and the lube stiffened up enough for a good test.
The dealer might get real excited if one of His brand new 10 grand machines was out of His site for that length of time.

LOL... sounds like 3 days of R&R I had in Bangkok many years ago. Almost lost my stripes on that deal.

Alot of dealers leave machines outside,or at least pull them out in the morning and put them out on display..of course where it is -15 they might not.

Again, you guys should consider trying a different brand gear lube in the rear diff. I put AMSOIL Synthetic chain case lube in the trani on my 500 and it is always smooth and quiet. If I had a separate rear diff, I would use the AMSOIL Severe Gear lube.
But that's just me.

Come on Ruggo, Share a good one we're mostly adults here. I have quite a few more too, some courtesy of Alchohol some just plain stupid and most a combination of both.

HO, alot of the dealers have at least one of every model outside so you can test them. Here in SD we can ride down the street as long as they have at least 250cc, a rear view mirror, horn the is audible from 300 feet, and rear brake light. When it is in that -10 f to 4 f range it will do it after sitting for a while once it hits -15 below with a wind chill of -40 or so it will do it constantly. So I would need to have a day like that to get a true test. This is probably not going to happen anymore this year, so I'm thinking that documenting the prob with the dealer (i'm still under warranty) would make POPO responsible for the fix if it did cause an issue. It works this way with autos, if the dealer can not fix it because they can't replicate the problem be cause of a climate condition then they Doc it so if the described problem reoccurs they will fix it. I hope it would work the same with ATV's.

I used the Amsoil gear oil in my 800 and all my race car diffs..it will go in the 850 hear soon.. I left the stock stuff in there during break in so I can drain out any inital break in metal particles when I put the Amsoil in.
