Default Trailblazer with a noisy rear end

i have a 99 trail blazer and it is making a grinding sound in the rear somewhere... it only does it when i press the gas and quits when it is free wheeling... i just took it to a "mechanic friend" and he said the rear end was out of fluid so he topped it off and said the sound should go away and it hasn't changed at all.... i am leaving next thursday to go on a 100 mile ride so i need help ASAP lol thanks for any suggestions at all

sounds like the silent chain is stretched. have to pull the gearcase out and replace the chain. not really a bad job to do.

the gearcase on the rear of the bike...its whats connected to the axle with a chain. the silent chain is inside of there. have to pull the gearcase from the machine and split it in half. the chain is in there. if the oil was low then its no suprise than the chain is stretched. happens all the time and its not a big deal to fix. there isnt a lot of stuff in that gearcase.

Is there a good possibility of it breaking? It hasn't been making the noise that long.

no but it will cause more costly damage. it will start to round the gears that it rides on.
if you buy the chain it only take about 2 1/2 hours to replace it

Default Trailblazer with a noisy rear end

Mine was doing the same thing when I bought it used. I have a 98 250 trailblazer. When you give it gas you hear it, and while loading it or turning. I pulled out the gear case and found some of the shifting forks were bad and the chain was stretched. So I ended up just buying a good used gear case on ebay and works great. Just finished putting it in a few nights ago and works better than it ever did. Took a while for me to tear it all down, but this is the first quad I have owned and never did it before but now I have the expierience! Good luck!
