Default electrical problem

I have a 04 Sportsman 500. The problem is that everytime I hook the battery terminal up my fan comes on and if I turn the key on the instrument panel flashes hot. It does not matter if I have not riden it, it always says hot and the fan runs. Does anybody know what would cause this?

sounds like one of those infamous sure power module failures. call your dealer to see if your bike has a recall for it. othewise (if that is the problem) its not going ot be cheap

I agree with eggenz7, sounds like your ECM. Same issues. I got the wife's 2006 Sp450 serviced last year in April, took about 2 months to get the parts and schedule the RECALL service. You should of received a letter in the mail about it if it affected your model. All to chime in here but there was a RECALL notice web site where you can check on what production models were in the recall. Search Polaris web site and consumer services.

Regards,

R'

this must be a 2004.5 year. check the vin # to see if its had the recall done as that ws one of the issues the ecm's had amoung others.

thanks for the replies about the recall. I did find the web site and checked the Vin number and it did say that my 4 wheeler was not affected by the recall so I do not think that is the problem.
