pull start only
#1
greetings. I have a 99 Polaris Express which will crank over well but not start. I then reach down and one yank on the pull starter and it starts right up. With the key in the on position it will only start by pull starter. Anyone heard of something like this.
Thanks

welcome to the forum. did you check to make sure it was firng while you cranked it over w/ the button? i have heard of a few cases where it just cant crank fast enough or have enough juice in the battery to fire it as well as crank it over. is the battery strong and have a good 12.5 volt charge?

thanks for the welcome. The battery is strong and cranks over very fast. Just picked it up last night, will put a multi-meter on it after work. Seems that the starter button is cutting the ignition current for some reason.

sounds like the pickup coil (trigger coil) is out of adjustment. dont have the numbers but if its just far enough away from the flywheel then the starter can spin the motor fast enough to trigger the spark but a good tug on the rope and it will spin fast enough to trigger the spark. try getting a manual or atleast to specs for it and check that out
have also seen some posts on here about reaming the mounting holes on the pickup coil to get it a little closer to the flywheel and it solves the issue
